Record Low Sea Ice Levels!
Written by: Jonathan Myers
Either due to global warming or natural climactic variations, there some very impressive photos coming from space this morning. To the left is NASA satellite imagery of arctic sea ice. Although it looks like there is plenty of ice (pictured in the white) over the North Pole, this is actually a new record minimum for sea ice! As you can see from the graph, also to the left, in the 1980's the amount of sea ice generally fell in the range of six to seven million square kilometers. Our 2007 tallies are only at about half, running between 3 and 4 million square kilometers!
