2008 Starts Snowy, Very Cold!

Written by: Scott Hetsko

I'm updating our expectations for lake snows tonight and Wednesday. No doubt drastically colder air will move into the area later tonight and tomorrow. As you can see by my snowfall map, I've adjusted down our snowfall numbers a little bit. We'll likely see a bad morning commute with snow and blowing snow. Snow will continue in bands on Wednesday with a few more inches possible. By Wednesday night, 5-10" will have fallen but 10" is the exception, not the rule! Temperatures will reside in the teens all day with wind chill values below zero at times. Blowing snow will cause low visibility especially in open, rural roadways. Bottom line: An average winter day in January for Rochester!

  1. Scott, That is great news. I love it! How about ski country? Anything out that way tonight? A snow day to start off the new year would be great!!

  4. Max snow report was about 4" in Southeast Monroe County. Light lake effect snow tonight in spots but generally under 1" overnight. Cold is the big story tonight, Southern Tier valleys could dip below zero just before dawn. As promised, much milder air returns to the area early next week.

  5. I never saw a weather person apologize for a blown forecast. That was pretty classy.

  6. NY123 are you being mean on purpose or is it just flowing.

This morning it is a cold morning. At least the snow last night kept clouds from completely clearing so we stayed a couple degrees warmer then we would have if we would have had full radiational cooling

  7. If you mean when I said Scott did a classy thing no I wasn't being mean, I meant it. Scott is the best weather forecaster in the area and when he apologized for a bad prediction (on air)I thought he did a very classy thing. People adjust their lives based on what these guys say and I think Scott realizes that.
If you don't like my comments about snow--tough.

  10. yes, yes he is. that is why we watch. we love the way he explains things; and your right, no one ever apologizes when they blow a forecast. Scott is at the head of the class!
