Hop On! Roller Coaster Weather Sunday and Monday

Written by: Scott Hetsko

We're expecting some big swings in our weather beginning Sunday and continuing into Christmas Eve. A strong cold front will slide through Western New York on Sunday afternoon. Before the front arrives, strong warm air advection from the Tennessee river valley will push our temperatures well into the 50's Sunday morning. With any sun, Rochester's record high of 60 degrees could be challenged! Rain and even a few gusty thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon, winds will gust near 55 mph at times. A single band of lake effect snow will develop late Sunday night and continue Monday off of Lake Erie as colder air moves into the region. This band may produce a few inches of snow for Rochester but any significant lake snow will fall in Buffalo and the South towns. A white Christmas is pretty much guaranteed from Rochester West along the thruway to Buffalo!

  1. Woo Hoo, a white Christmas! Warm air and thunderstorms go hand in hand, right? Have we ever had thunderstorms in winter like this before?

  2. Nice line of convection and thunderstorms developing from Buffalo southward heading in our direction some may become severe.
