Becoming warmer and wetter dangerously close to Christmas
Written By: Jonathan Myers
With a healthy snow pack on the ground, many folks aren't very worried about the prospects of a White Christmas. Our cold and snowy pattern may change, though, just before Santa and his reindeer make their journey. As a storm rides off to our west during the weekend, the jet stream will buckle up to the north. This will allow plenty of mild 40's and maybe even near 50-degree-readings into Western New York over the weekend along with a developing chance of rain showers. If cold air returning behind the storm system on Monday (Christmas Eve) and Tuesday (Christmas Day) isn't enough to spark off accumulating lake-effect snows, we might run the risk of yet another Green Christmas.
What do you think of the GFS runs today they all show the low becoming a nor easter middle of next week with colder temps this weekend maybe even enough to keep the snow here
ReplyDeleteHey Charles,
ReplyDeleteGFS always "bombs" out Nor'Easters usually 7-10 days out. In later runs they go away. As always, time will tell but don't bet the house on it!

oh I never said that. This morning's run shows again the low moving toward our NE so back on the warm side. However it still shows a nor' easter on the 26-27 time frame will continue to watch the model and see if other models latch on. I will believe we will get something if the NAM or EUKMET jumps aboard
ReplyDeleteGood-- I like green.
ReplyDeleteNo way, if you want green go south. We need a White Christmas here! Come on drum us up some sleigh landing weather...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a long fetch of SW winds over lake Erie will spark a single band of lake effect snow Sunday night and Monday. There's still hope for a white Christmas!

The Local NWS is now mentioning close to 55-58 Sunday morning if that happens we are bound for a green Christmas. Also they have even mentioned the chance of severe weather
ReplyDeleteSunday's going to be a wild day. First with near record breaking temperatures then strong winds and the potential for a few thunderstorms. Severe is especially difficult this time of year but not impossible. Strong wind gusts would likely be the main concern with any storm that would develop.
ReplyDeleteLake snows will follow on a WSW flow off Lake Erie. A white christmas is probably a lock for much of Genesee, Wyoming, and Orleans Counties.

Wish I could head south.
ReplyDeleteCome on over and shovel my driveway.
