Round Two: Friday's Storm

Written By: Brian Neudorff

Wednesday's wind will begin to diminish as we go into Thursday as high pressure builds into the region to replace the departing storm. This will give us a brief break until the next storm, which is forecasted to impact the region Friday morning.

This storm will begin to take shape over the southern plains allowing for moist Gulf air to meet up with the cold air already in the plains. This will set up a messy scenario of snow from the mid-Mississippi Valley into the Central Great Lakes Thursday and Thursday night. An icy mix for parts of Arkansas and Missouri, with rain and thunderstorms along the Gulf Coast.

Friday the low will track into the Ohio Valley and into western New York spreading most of the snow into southern Ontario and the St. Lawrence Valley. With a wintry mix of snow, sleet and possibly freezing rain as well as periods of rain to New York and parts of New England. Then the storm will weaken and try to redevelop off the east coast.

Current thinking for us is that we could get a burst of snow initially, maybe a couple of inches Friday morning before warmer air tries to filters in and the change over to a wintry mix takes place. Cold air could hold on close to the surface this would give us the threat of sleet and possibly freezing rain and then all rain for a brief period if we can get the mild temperatures to mix down to the surface. Once again we could be experiencing a wintry mess to start your Friday and close out the work week

  2. Scott is there a chance that even Ontario, NY could stay all zr throughout the day. The temperatures will be very close so if they stay a degree or 2 lower will that result in major icing in the Lake Shore Communities
