Tornado confirmed in Central NY Saturday!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
The National Weather Service office in Binghamton confirmed the touchdown of an EF-0 tornado in the town of Camden at approximately 6:50PM on Saturday. Wind gusts were estimated to be around 75 miles per hour. (Note: the picture at left is NOT a picture from yesterday's tornado.)
Fortunately, no one was hurt, and only buildings were damaged. A barn collapsed, siding was pulled off the side of a house, and an innocent snowmobile trailer took a nice, unexpected 25 foot ride across the yard.
Here in our area we actually missed out on the bulk of the stronger weather yesterday. Even just south of the NYS Thruway, there were thunderstorms with frequent lightning and drenching rains. Relatively warm air at the surface with quite cold air throughout the higher levels of the atmosphere contributed greatly to the stronger storms' development.
Into the early week we will still continue with our cooler, damp weather pattern, but severe weather looks like it will shy away for now. Warmer weather anyone?
I heard about this news yesterday. Glad to know no one was hurt. Thanks for this update... :)
