What the "hail" is going on lately?
Written by: Scott Hetsko
Man we've had some wacky weather around here this Summer and this past weekend was no exception. Thunderstorms produced hail the size of golf balls near the town of Victor Sunday evening. The picture on your left shows how hail forms in a mature thunderstorm. Hailstones grow by collision with supercooled water drops. (Supercooled drops are liquid drops surrounded by air that is below freezing which is a common occurrence in thunderstorms.) Typically the stronger the updraft, the larger and more dangerous the hail! Check out more on hail development by clicking HERE!
