The Winter Solstice is almost upon us!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
If you are a frequent view of News8 or Fox Rochester, you know that we include the sunrise/sunset times and length of days just before our 7-day each evening. While updating the information today, I sighed to myself as I changed the length of day to "9 hours, 0 minutes". That's right folks, by tomorrow we won't even see 9 full hours of sunlight.
But guess what, this shortening of the days is short-lived. For the winter solstice is quickly approaching. You know it as the first day of Winter, which falls on December 21 this year. This is also the shortest day (or longest night) of the year. So although you may be singing the winter blues in the near term, at least you can have the comfort of knowing that the days begin to get longer within the next week!
