STRONG WINDS RETURN WEDNESDAY
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
It's been just over a week since our last windy episode in western New York, making a return late tonight and staying with us through Wednesday.
A strikingly similar setup in store to arrive tonight, as another potent, compact low pressure system rides north of us, swinging cold air and a line of showers and thunderstorms, followed by whipping winds.
In comparison to last Monday's wind, this even may be a little weaker. Most of the strongest winds will be concentrated close to the northeast edges of Lake Erie. Because of this, only the westernmost counties in our viewing area (Genesee, Monroe, Orleans, Wyoming) are under a Wind Advisory from 1A-4P Wednesday. Sustained winds could pick up to 20-30 mph, with gusts approaching 45 mph. The strongest winds may be seen in the thunderstorms that arrive in the wee hours of the morning however, as gusts in the strongest storms could cause some potential for damage. We will of course monitor this system closely as it approaches.
Behind the front, the cool air rushes in, as we dip into the 50s for most of the day Wednesday. Milder air makes a brief return on Thursday.
