HURRICANE IDA: MONDAY MORNING UPDATE
Written by: Brian Neudorff
Sunday Afternoon hurricane Ida peaked at a Category 2 with sustained winds of 100 mph. Early Monday morning Ida had begun to weaken. As of 4am CST Ida was a category 1 hurricane with sustain winds of 90 mph and moving north-northwest at 16 mph. Ida is encountering some strong wind shear this along with colder water in the northern Gulf of Mexico will work against Ida and more weakening is expected as it approaches landfall Tuesday morning along the coasts of Mississippi, Alabama and the western Florida Pan Handle.
My feeling is if Ida continues to weaken then it will make landfall Tuesday as a very weak category 1 hurricane or more likely a tropical storm. Either way all residence who are under a posted warning or watch should prepare for the worst.
