INTERESTING NOVEMBER SNOWFALL STATS

Here we are, less than a week from closing out the month of November and, in Rochester, we've yet to receive our first measurable snowfall of the season. On average, Rochester typically receives its first measurable snowfall by November 8th. That puts us a full two weeks behind schedule. There are only 2 Novembers in Rochester history that never had snow, 1952 and 1935 and one that saw just trace amounts back in 1948. Could November of 2009 be next on the list with no snow?

We will at least get to Friday, November 27th snow free before snow is mentioned in the forecast. If that happens it will be the latest Rochester has gone before getting measurable snow in 46 years (1963). The all-time record latest date for the first measurable snow in Rochester is December 10th 1948. It's unlikely we will go that long as you have read here on our blog that our weather pattern is taking a turn to the colder side of things.

Did you also know that we've gone 230 days since our last measurable snowfall? The last time we measured snow in Rochester was on April 7th 2009. This is our 6th longest stretch in 125 years of record. The record is 260 days set back in 1952. If we remain snow free through Thanksgiving it could end up being our 3rd longest streak in history and could be longer than that depending on how much snow if any we get from the next storm November 27th and the 28th.
