WINTER RETURNS LATER NEXT WEEK

Written By: Scott Hetsko

"Witner is over!" "We won't get much more snow and cold this year!" These are some recent posts to our blog over the past week or so as many Winter lovers are incresingly depressed. I've got some good news, Winter is coming back next week as January ends. It's too early to say how long the cold and snow will stick around but a large chunk of Arctic air will slowly drop Southeast from Central Canada and at least glance us next weekend.

Temperatures well below zero will be found as close as Ottawa, Watertown I suspect next weekend. If that polar low closes off near Nova Scotia next Sunday, then will stay cold for at least the first week of February. The climate prediction center's 8-14 day forecast still has the Northeast in above normal temperatures but they'll probably amend that soon.

  1. Here is an article which, I think, correlates nicely with your predictions, Scott.

  2. Scott is this large chunk of arctic air going to be a piece of the polar vortex coming down?

  3. i just looked at the last couple runs of the GFS and all i can say is...YIKES! it looks like even if the "core" of the coldest air just glances us, we'll still be plenty cold enough for snow...and A LOT of it for a decent amount of time. Scott based on the GFS, it looks like there will be much more synoptic snow opportunity this time around with an active storm track coming at us in the middle of the cold spell..is that a fair statement?

  5. I looked at the GFS and I see no storms at all once the cold air hits. Am I missing something?
