LET'S BREAK THE ICE
Written By: Scott Hetsko
Great image taken yesterday of the shrinking ice on the Eastern side of Lake Erie. As the ice continues to thin you'll continue to see it break into smaller and smaller chunks the next few weeks. Notice toward Buffalo how the ice remains pretty solid. That area of the lake is more shallow so the ice is a little thicker there than furter Southwest. Even though a little more than half of the lake is open, water temperatures remain very cold. This is why we saw such a huge difference in air temperature between Buffalo and Rochester yesterday. The "lake effect" is SO much more than just snow!
I hear in the summer you guys talk about the "lake shadow." What does that mean?
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of neat, the winds have veered to the NE in Rochester. Is that the Ontario lake breeze kicking in now?
ReplyDeleteThis is getting strange. It's only the 9th of March and the weather is behaving as if it's the 9th of April. Could winter really be over?
ReplyDeleteHallelulia, if winter is definitely over for Rochester!
