ON A RECORD PACE, FOR NOW.

Half way through the month and we're on a pace to set the new record for warmest average temperature for April in Rochester. I don't not expect us to finish the month as number one but I think it's reasonable we'll end up in the top 10 warmest April's in recorded history. While temperatures may average above normal the second half of the month, it won't be nearly as warm as we began.
If you're wondering, historically a warm April doesn't necessarily mean a super hot Summer is ahead. From the top 5 above, only 1921 saw very hot months in July and September of that year. I do expect this Summer to be warmer than average with several "hot" days over 90 degrees. More on this topic in May!
The National Weather service has all of Western, NY including Rochester in Drought development. How can this be, we are only about 1 inch below normal?
ReplyDeleteWell it's development, Here is the current Drought Monitor Right now it's just saying we are abnormally dry. Which is true. This has been a dry month and as the old saying goes April Showers bring May Flowers well with out those April Showers eventually it will grow more difficult on those May flowers and lawns
