I'D SAY IT WAS BREEZY...

Written by: Bob Metcalfe
Sure the title was a bit sarcastic. Today offered us the strongest area-wide wind we've seen in a long time, creating havoc for trees and power lines across the area. As the typical volunteer firefighter that I am, I turned on the scanner and heard countless calls for trees and lines broken, leaning, and even on houses.
I snagged this image at 5pm with wind gusts that hour at 47 mph at the airport. The highest gust up until this point was 54 mph however. It'll last for a few more hours before subsiding overnight into the 20-25 mph range.
As for Mother's Day, I wish I could offer great weather but it's just not in the cards. Cold air above will keep most of us in the 40's at best. The breeze will be decent (however nothing like today!) at about 20mph from the northwest. It could even be cold enough for a few hour period of sprinkles to mix with flurries during the early morning, but this won't amount to anything. Drier weather should take over for the second half of the day, and we might even manage to squeeze a little sun out of the afternoon.
Looking much more seasonable down the road as we return to a near-60 feel most of next week. No signs of severe weather for us in the near term though.

  1. The wind here in West Webster feels/sounds just like yesterday's - howling!
