CONFIRMED 5.5 QUAKE IN CANADA

Written by: Bob Metcalfe

It's official. A magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred at 1:41 with an epicenter 38 miles from Ottawa, Quebec. Our newsroom received a flood of calls from concerned viewers within seconds. So far, no reported damages that we've heard of. However, we're quite far from the epicenter, so damage reports may come in from areas in Canada.

Roughly 500 earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 occur worldwide per year, making this a fairly rare occasion. A fault line resides close to the northern New York/Canada border and this area has been active in years past.

Reports via Twitter and other social media say that this was felt as far away as Tennessee and Kentucky.

Please let us know if you received any damage or have any pictures to share! Not a disaster, but certainly something that everyone will be talking about for a while!

  3. Which was it: 5.5- as the headline says,
or 5.0 as the article said?

    Just checking for the facts!
