UNSETTLED WEATHER THIS WEEK
Written by: Brian Neudorff
I mentioned yesterday that May was below average for rain but it wasn't much. May was roughly a 1/4 of an inch below average for the month when it comes to precipitation. Unfortunately most of our precipitation came in the first half of the month. The second half we only saw 0.26" of measurable precipitation.
Now we are in June, and as of 10am on Tuesday we've received roughly over a half an inch of rain from the showers overnight and this morning. It looks like this may be the start of an unsettled pattern for the rest of the week. The above graphic depicts the average location of the jet stream this week. As you can see it crosses across the northern Tier of the United States, through the Great Lakes and into New England. This will allow for storm systems and disturbances to swing through. We will dry out briefly Wednesday as an area of high pressure moves in but its affect will be short lived as the next system and cold front arrive Wednesday night into Thursday. High pressure builds in again on Friday to give us another nice day but then another system moves in across the region and we could see scattered showers around the whole weekend. As for the weekend, models do differ on location of next storm system but they all seem to show unsettled weather for most of this week and into the weekend.
Hi! I know that weather in Rochester is always in question but I am watching the forecast like crazy because I am the Chair of the Webster Relay For Life which will take place from 6p-6a Sat into Sun. We have hundreds of people who walk the Thomas HS track all night long. They set up tents, etc.....so I am looking for any additional info you could share about that time frame. Rain we can walk in but I got very worried last night when the forecast added in lightning and wind.....any new updated info would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you!
