FOR ALL YOU WEATHER GEEKS: RADAR!
Written by: Bob Metcalfe
I posted an image of the radar from the severe thunderstorm warning this evening in eastern Ontario county. I was watching a few pesky cells during the 5-6pm news and just before the final hit of weather, wouldn't you know this appeared. The warning called for potential hail in these storms.
Some of you may be drooling at this little tool here. This is a pay service through weathertap.com. I have no affiliation with them whatsoever besides being a customer (on my own account, outside of the station), but I find this product HIGHLY useful at times like these. Warnings are overlaid over the screen in near real-time, and those little blue boxes show you all the storm stats, including probability of hail, how fast a storm is rotating (notated as "Meso", and destination towns and times of arrival. That's just some of what it has to offer. So my suggestion is that if you're truly a weather geek, the fee for this pay service is something you could easily justify. They also have a mobile app, and I haven't figured it out yet but you can somehow connect it to your GPS if you're chasing. Great stuff!
