Chilly & Damp Today; A Little Wintry Tomorrow?

Written by John DiPasquale:

Low pressure slowly drifting southeast of the area & fizzling this afternoon & evening will keep it misty, gray & chilly through the remainder of this Wednesday.

Later tonight into Thursday, another slowly intensifying storm will move along a stationary front set up across S. Pennsylvania. This will likely provide the region with a bit of rain tonight, which will turn into a mix & snow late tonight & tomorrow morning before ending as a mix & wet snow Thursday afternoon. The Greater Rochester area & most locales will see little, if any, accumulation on grassy surfaces, but a slushy inch or two may add up in the hills South of the Thruway & especially Routes 5 & 20 Thursday. So either way, it will not be a big deal, but the first flakes of the season are always exciting, ok maybe not everyone feels that way, but snow lovers & weather geeks I'm sure do. Highs on our Thursday will only reach the low 40s.

High pressure will build in tomorrow night into Friday & provide us with a frosty start to Friday with lows in the 20s to around 30, & highs on Friday, despite some sun, will only reach the mid 40s.

The weekend will remain chilly, but it looks like it will stay pretty uneventful with a couple of rain/snow showers possible Saturday afternoon & some sun returning to the area Sunday. The only caviat to this forecast is a potential nor'easter blowing up off the Eastern Seaboard late Friday night & Saturday. At this point, though, it looks like that storm will be too far to the east to have any real impacts on the weather here in WNY. Now, if something drastically changes of course we will let you know. Stay tuned.

Have a good one WNY!

  3. I too am a snow lover Caledonia & Anonymous. I really do think that it will turn cold enough for a bit of snow here in the city of Rochester later this afternoon. Yes, little, if any, accumulation will occur for many, but again South of the Thruway in the hills & through the Finger Lakes, some minor accumulations are likely. Fingers crossed for those flakes to fly later today!
