LET THE SNOW TALK BEGIN

No change in the thinking for Thursday's rain over to wet snowfall. Anyone above 800' in elevation has the best shot of accumulating snow Thursday afternoon and evening.

A stalled front in Pennsylvania along with a quick moving low tracking along that boundary will likely create the first snowfall in the Southern Tier and possibly Rochester Thursday afternoon and evening. Rain will change over to a period of wet snow in the afternoon and evening hours.

If anyone gets an accumulating snow it will likely be South of Routes 5 and 20 where a few slushy inches of snow are possible. As always, everything depends on the exact track of the storm.

  1. Scotty, other than flakes flying in the air thursday afternoon.. is the atmosphere going to have enough dynamic cooling for the possibility of a slushy coating to accumulate in the lower elevations including rochester...as an avid snow lover..im getting anxious for the years first measurable snow!!! thanks scotty:)

  2. Yeah I think it's possible. If we are on the edge of the more moderate precipitation then I'd say we can get a slushy 1-2".

  3. Scott, do you see any major pattern change down the pipeline in the near future?! Long range models are all over the place and I was curious to your thoughts on when you believe cold air will settle in and stay at least a couple of days? And were you surprised by the development of this system at all?

  4. They will probably be all over for awhile as seasons change. Models have a hard time in transition months. I do not see a major change in the next 10-14 days.
