Wind Advisory Today for Rochester

Written by John DiPasquale:

A large, intense storm system to the north up near Hudson's Bay will be the primary culprit for the gusty west-southwest winds that blow today. Winds could gust between 40 & 50 mph this afternoon, which could cause some tree limbs to be knocked down possibly resulting in a few scattered power outages. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for today across much of WNY, including the Greater Rochester area.

Winds will settle once the sun sets & as the storm weakens tonight & tomorrow, it will still be a bit brisk Tuesday, but relatively calm compared to today. After experiencing a pretty nice looking day on this Monday, we will see any sun fade away Tuesday afternoon in advance of a developing storm over the Southeast. Of the two storms phasing, one will likely be of tropical nature out of the Gulf of Mexico. With that being said, this developing nor'easter will likely be a big rain & wind producer for some areas of the northeast, possibly including us later Wednesday into Thursday. The nor'easter will slowly depart Thursday & Friday, but the effects of it will remain over the region with wind, an unseasonable chill & scattered showers, some of the shower activity coming off the lake. As a matter of fact, the air could very well be cold enough to support a bit snow/mix, especially in the high terrain Thursday into Friday, but this should not be a big deal, if it even occurs at all. Highs through the week will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s, but Thursday 50 to 55 is all we will be able to muster on Friday will most likely be upper 40s to around 50!!

Thankfully, the weather should improve at least some going into the weekend, as high pressure builds in from the west & provides a return to the sun!! Right now, Sunday appears to be shaping up the best with sun & slightly milder temperatures after a POSSIBLE hard freeze Sunday. Highs should climb well into the 50s over the weekend.

Have a great day & hang onto your hats WNY!
