Cold West Winds = Lake Snows Not Here

Written by John DiPasquale:

Today will be blustery & quiet for the most part with a few general snow showers & flurries developing late in the day into early tonight with an upper air disturbance & trough. Little, if any, accumulation will occur for most, but East of Lake Erie & Ontario there will be some accumulation tonight, especially East of Lake Ontario where 4 to as much as 8 or 9 inches will likely pile up away from the lake. Lows tonight will drop into the mid 20s to around 30 with a brisk wind.

High pressure will build in from the South & West & provide a nicer looking & more seasonable day to end our work & school week. Brisk winds will blow Friday, though, making the mid to perhaps upper 40s feel more like the 30s tomorrow afternoon.

The weekend is looking pretty good once again! High pressure to the South & East & a cold front slowly approaching from the West will result in a warming southwest flow with a good deal of sunshine expected. Highs will get into the mid 50s. On Sunday, it will probably be even milder with highs up near 60 during the late morning/midday, before slipping back through the 50s later in the afternoon, as a cold front sneaks through. There will be quite a few clouds moving through on Sunday associated with the cold front, but shower activity will be limited with just a couple showers possible to finish out the weekend.

Behind Sunday's cold front it will turn seasonably chilly for at least the first half of next week with highs back into the 40s, & possibly a bit of rain & snow developing with a little weak low later Monday into Monday night. Beyond Monday, another storm may try to develop down South, but at this point long range data is suggesting this storm will slide South of us Wednesday & not really affect us, which would be good for all the travelers. Stay tuned & we'll keep you posted.

Have a great day & try to stay warm everyone!

  1. WELL, AS THE SAME OLD STORY GOES. WE ARE ALWAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE EFFECT AND MISS THOSE EVENTS AND WE MISS THE STORMS SOUTH AND EAST ALL OF THE TIME. IT IS LIKE A BROKEN RECORD OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

  4. Great! Thanks for the report Anonymous! I will mention this on the noon show today. Your snow was a combination of lake effect off Erie & general snow burst with the disturbance that passed through late yesterday/early last night. Most did see the snow they received yesterday in about 30 to 60 minutes time. It was a quick, but pretty intense, especially where you are & in general South of the Thruway in the hills. Thanks again!

Also, I just posted my thinking about next Tuesday night into Wednesday. Enjoy the weekend & the more comfy temps! Snow will come. Be patient:-) I hear ya, I am a snow lover too!
