Sun Busts Out this Afternoon

Written by John DiPasquale:

Finally the scene to the left has changed as drier air building in from the North has won out & the clouds are giving way to sun! Today's highs will be much lower than yesterday, but at least we will enjoy a good deal of sun through the rest of this Monday. Highs today will be in the low 40s.

Tonight will be quiet & cold, & tomorrow will begin sunny, but unfortunately the sun will not last as a fast moving storm coming up from the Southern Plains makes it's presence felt with increasing clouds & a good dose of rain from late tomorrow through the start of Wednesday. About an 1" to 1.50" will likely fall during the aforementioned time frame. Some lingering showers may end as a bit of snow/mix Wednesday afternoon, but for the most part this event should be a wet one, which is good news for all your travelers out there. Highs Tuesday & Wednesday should be in the mid 40s.

Wednesday night into Thanksgiving a strong area of high pressure with plenty of dry air will build in & set the stage for a very nice Turkey Day! Lots of sun & temperatures warming to around 50 on Thursday afternoon!

High pressure will drift off to the South & East & result in a warming, southerly flow for Friday & Saturday! In addition to the warming Friday & Saturday, we should experience a good deal of sun, especially Friday. Highs Black Friday & Saturday should hit the low to mid 60s!! Tough to be shopping inside on a day like Friday is going to be. Try to enjoy some of Friday & Saturday outside, if you can.

Slightly cooler & eventually colder air will build in Sunday & especially next week.

Have a great afternoon all!

  2. To the meteorologists:

When is winter going to get here???? Yes, I know it's "only November", but I've heard that song and dance before. The pattern now could have implications later on couldn't it? When do you think we'll finally get that fundamental pattern change to cold / snowy around Rochester? I want snow to get into the Christmas spirit!

  3. Have to get that vortex out of Alaska before this pattern changes .. think we have another 10-14 days before there is a serious chance of that.

  4. Last I heard this pattern might not change until around the THIRD week in December. Apparently the MJO is all out of sorts for any cold air to be delivered to the lower 48. December might be equally as frustrating.

  5. DID ANYONE SEE SCOTT'S WINTER FORECAST. HE SAID THAT DECEMBER WILL BE MUCH LIKE LAST YEAR I BELIEVE. THE SWITCH TO COLD AND SNOW WILL OCCUR IN DECEMEBR. WHEN IN DECEMBER IS THE QUESTION.

  6. Maybe it won't snow ever again?! I truly believe that the pattern is going to trend colder by next tuesday, just a hunch I have. Plus, the models have to start favoring what all of here want one of these days and I think that happens next week!

Snowfan, I don't think it has a much to do with the MJO due to the fact that the pineapple express has been loaded with storms so far this November, which have been pelting the West. It doesn;t seem to be outta whack to me, but thats just my two cents!

  7. Looks like the previous poster said that a true change won't come until early December. The weather often turns on a dime around here, stay patient. By the way, our Winter Ready special is online, check it out!
