Windy, Mild & Becoming Wet Today

Written by John DiPasquale:

The mild, benign November continues here in WNY today. Yes, we will contend with some developing rain and maybe even a t-storm later today and/or early tonight, but as far as any wintry weather goes, there will be no signs of it to start the week. Highs today will be solidly into the 60s, after waking up to temperatures around 60 early this morning! It was like summer last night with a breeze and quite a bit of cloud cover. A "cold" front will slide through later tonight & cool us off a little for tomorrow, as highs will range from about 55 to 60. Still mild for this time of year, but a little closer to seaonable levels. We will also have some sun return to the sky during the day Tuesday, which will be nice.

Come Wednesday, the front that is coming through later tonight will put the brakes on & act as railroad tracks for a storm system developing toward the tail end of the front down South. The combination of the storm will track up along the front into the big cities of the Northeast and another, stronger cold front moving through Wednesday will likely produce quite a few clouds and possibly a few scattered showers, mainly during the morning & early afternoon. Behind Wednesday's cold front, temperatures will tumble back out of the low 50s during the midday into & through the 40s with a gusty wind and a little sun attempting to develop later in the day.

A disturbance and the cold air will trigger a few snow showers and flurries Thursday, especially later in the day, & it will be very cold and blustery with highs only around 40, and wind chills in the 20s & 30s!

High pressure will build back in for Friday & much of the upcoming weekend once again, which will allow for some sun and much milder temperatures to return, along with a pretty good warming wind too. There might be a shower or two later Sunday, but at this point it looks like another nice November weekend! When will we pay the price?? Stay tuned.

Have a great day WNY!

  2. I have no idea if this is accurate, but I had a conversation with a meteorologist once who said that there is only so much cold air on tap in the Arctic, and if a lot of it spills down during the fall, that leaves a limited amount of that frigid air for the winter.

Also, I saw a satellite image of Arctic Circle snowpack a couple of weeks ago and it was nearly the same as last year at this time. With the warm fall, it looks like that cold air is building up there - but - will there be vehicles (clippers, cold fronts) that funnel it down this way???

  3. If you look back historically, November has always been a "buffer" month, equaling itself out between stretches of warm and cold. It's going to get cold and snowy this winter, plain and simple! Everyone just needs to be patient, after all, this is Rochester!

  4. This will be one of the mildest and least snowy winters ever in Rochester. Mark it down.
