4 HOURS

Written By: Scott Hetsko

Now that I'm 41 years old, some nights I get up around 3am. I looked outside my window this morning around 3am and noticed nothing going on. When I woke again at 7am, I had about 3" of snow on the ground and the temperature dropped by almost 20 degrees!

Weather service spotters have been reporting 2-5" of snow since this morning. Some higher elevations have had 6-7" snow amounts as reported on my FACEBOOK page.

  1. I had about 4 to 6 inches in my driveway at 1p.m.
Hard to tell with all the wind blowing it around.

  2. News 8 described this as a "nuisance" snow last night.....1 to 3 inches, while other channels were hyping it up because of the timing of the snow and the wind. What happened channel 8? Unless u were forecasting this to be a BIG nuisance, which it was driving this morning.

  3. I can't win anonymous. I was HYPING last time and now I'm too soft. I can't please everyone so all I can say is that at 10 and 11 last night my forecast pretty accurately reflected what occurred.

    2. Screw 'em Scott. There are too many psychos on here. If I were you I wouldn't bother - you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

  4. Scott, what you think about the band over the lake. Think it will dip down into monroe county?

  5. I do and I think 1-2" more could be falling this evening.

    1. Will it stick around or just drop a quick inch or two and move on.....

  6. Kinda hoping we wouldn't hold the channel 8 team to anything said on this blog vs what the official on air forecast was. This blog will be much more entertaining if they feel free to discuss things on here without having to worry about being called out on it later.

I usually give the weather folks a pretty generous margin of error.

1.) They are literally trying to predict the future for a living. That's pretty amazing if you ask me.

2.) If people were able to grade my work every day of the year... I highly doubt I'd be anywhere near 100% perfect.

  8. Hey Scott, some of the models are hinting at a big warm up the last week of the month (23rd or so). What do you think...take it to the bank or dump it in the trash?

  9. Keep up the great work Scott (& team). Compared to the bust we had a few weeks ago, I'd much rather you be on the conservative side. There's nothing more disappointing than expecting 6 and only getting 1-2... yet, like yesterday (& this morning combined), expecting 3-4, then getting 5-7 is just awesome! SNOW SNOW SNOW SNOW, I LOVE SNOW SNOW :)

  10. Boy.. I hope the models are wrong for the week of the 22nd. I don't want to get my shorts and t-shirts back out.

Yeah, just when it starts to resemble winter the pattern goes right back to warm and rainy. I am inclined to believe that we will not see much of a winter at this point, but I hope I'm wrong.

  11. What temps are the models showing for the week of 22nd?

  12. I don't want to jinx us, but models are actually backing off the amount of warmth they are forecasting for the week of the 22nd! They are used to the warm this winter and are not giving the cold air the respect it deserves. Hopefully this trend continues so we can at least stay seasonable!

  14. Our up and down weather continues with warm-ups, followed by brief cold snaps behind a storm that start as rain on Tuesday and ends as snow on Wednesday. It looks like we've got another pretty significant warm-up late weekend/early next week. The NAO looks to stay positive. But we're finally starting to see at least some bouts of true wintry weather (it's 4 degrees as I write this). We'll see how things begin to play out.
