A Little More Snow Overnight

Written by: Stacey Pensgen

Yes, we are still expecting a little snow overnight tonight, but chances are it'll be gone in a few days.

A quick moving system passing by to our south tonight will drop an area-wide snow on WNY, blanketing the area in a fresh layer of the white stuff.

The most moisture will fall through the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, where about 2-4", maybe even 3-6" is likey by Saturday morning. Amounts taper off a little as you head north towards Lake Ontario, where amounts should be in the 1-2" range. However, we are in for a pretty decent warm-up on Monday, with temps back into the mid 40s with rain in the forecast. Our roller-coaster winter continues into the last full week of January.

  1. Winter is shot! A horrible one and February will be no better. We keep hearing of this pattern change and it never happens. I sorry winter with more rain than snow.

  2. Euro weeklies have us mild right through the middle of February. Cold wet spring coming up with snow in April.

  3. BTW,

    The sky is falling!

  4. We had our cold wet spring last year following a winter that would not end. Let's hope we have a nice mild spring this year!

  5. I'm with Sal on that

  6. How much snowfall can we expect in Wayland (Dansville) area out of this system?

  7. Caledonia, your wrong! Yes, its going to be mild monday, but its going to go to more seasonable temps next week, and then colder!

  8. So far so good. Looks like we make it to early Feb without a disaster.

  9. Is there anything out there showing a future storm for Rochester metro? This winter is really boring and it stinks.

  10. Hi Weatherguy. Where do you see more seasonal temps. It looks like another mild weak ahead of us with temps in the mid 30's to near 40. Let's shoot for the least snowiest winter ever. I think it is 29 inches.

  11. 14 day forecast going into early Feb looks good. 50+% chance of above normal temps. So far so good.

  12. Models are over playing the warmth towards the end of the week, unless a low tracks to our west. Just my personal opinion. I'm not a meteorologist, but my gut tells me that models will catch on to this by tuesday and that a little more consistent cold will set up by thursday/friday.

  13. I would also say keep an eye on a possible storm next weekend. I think there will be one the only question is will it be too far east for us. Just an opinion keep an eye on it.

  14. Nobody has anything to say??

  15. I would like to congratulate Andrew on his "winter forecast". As early as early Dec he said most storms would go west and we would be mostly on warm side--spot on. The only one who got this right was him.
    I just hope it continues.

  16. I have to agree about Andrew. He was right on with storms going to our West. I hate to say it but channel 8's winter forecast was a BIG bust this year and the predicted mid January pattern change was a bust as well.

  17. Maybe much colder later this weekend and well into next week. Excellent!

  18. It'll get cold for a few days, though not exceptional, but it ain't gonna last.

  19. Scott said that the pattern is not going to change and wants to amend his winter weather forecast. This is not good. We may set that record for the least snowiest winter ever in Rochester. Very bad!

  20. You can tell the weather is quiet here when we have not had a post from News 8 since Friday. Not many posting at all on the new blog. I think many are having problems getting on the site.

  21. Thank you anonymous and weatherdan for the shout out. However I have been positive and missed a few including my earlier post about next weekend. I think I blew that one. But the winter in the current pattern will not happen as snow lovers hope.I do not think the pattern is going to change many factors not there including a blocking pattern and the deep ridge is missing. I do not know I am not expert just a rookie.

  22. AO is going negative for the first time in months and is forecasted to continue negative.

  23. I'm just highly disappointed and keep hoping week after week that next week we will get snow, and it just never happens. I want to go sledding and snowmobiling with my girls, we look forward to it. Maybe we will have to hit up the ski resort for man made snow to go snow tubing. Very disappointing winter, Feb. isn't hear yet BUT with the trend, I'm pessimistic
