A Few Rays, but Clouds Prevail Today

Written by John DiPasquale:

Today will turn a little brighter for the afternoon with a little sun, but for the most part the low clouds will remain stubborn & hang tough.

The weather will be quiet through tonight, but during the day tomorrow some mainly rain will push in & exit tomorrow night. There likely will be at least a little wet snow mixing in, especially at the onset & in the higher terrain south of the Thruway. For the most part, though, this will be a mainly rain producing cold front & storm system. A southerly flow will push readings up through the 30s & into the low to perhaps mid 40s for a late day/evening high. Little, if any, accumulation will occur in the hills tomorrow.

Later Thursday night into Friday it will be blustery & colder with some breaks of sun to end the week. There may be a passing flurry/snow shower Friday, but overall it looks like a quiet day. Highs on Friday will be in the mid 30s.

The weekend COULD get quite interesting...The Euro was hinting at a storm coming up the coast yesterday, but backed away from it last night. However, 2 out of the last 3 runs has a little clipper joining forces with the stronger, moisture laden southern storm, as the polar & sub-tropical branches of the jetstream attempt to phase. This could be entertaining to say the least if this in fact pans out! The heaviest snows from the storm would likely be south & east of here, but nonetheless snows, wet snow, could be significant around here Saturday night into Sunday with a bit of lake snow late Sunday through the start of Monday. I WANT TO EMPHASIZE TO ALL YOU SNOW LOVERS & WINTER ENTHUSIASTS...DON'T GET TOO EXCITED YET, as the uncertainty with this complex potential storm system is still quite high, & we may get very little, if anything this weekend. It's definitely something to watch though, & get a little excited about. :-) We are due! Stay tuned more updates from the News 8 weather team forth coming...

  1. WHY IS IT THAT THESE STORMS LOOK LIKE THEY WILL RIDE UP THE COAST-INLAND, BUT THEN AS SOON AS IT HITS NC IT VEERS TO THE RIGHT INSTEAD OF GOING THE INLAND ROUTE. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
    THEY NEVER RIDE INLAND.

  2. Yeah with all due respect to John I think this has no chance of creating a storm for our area. The recent Euro was horrible and this will be more out to sea.Sorry winter weather lovers not happening. Will be warm next week or two.

  3. I disagree anonymous, but we will see.

  4. Actually, the Euro has been consistent with bringing a storm through the tennessee valley and exiting somewhere between long island and virginia. Plus, its still 5 days out and each model has been more and more north with the track. If we can have that ridge in the atlantic hold on a bit longer, it will bring the storm right where we want it. Lets just see what Scott and News 8 have to say in the coming days.

  5. Well I am not sure what people are seeing. I see the Euro as an out to see solution. Think you guys are lost on this one but wonder what Scott is thinking as of today. He is real good at looking at all the factors even 4 days out.

  6. Well I am sticking with a post I believe I made over the weekend that we will get a BIG storm this weekend. I think some may remember me saying that but we will see. I think the ingrediants are there for a moist storm strong and western NY being in the sweetspot. Only time will tell. I am not an expert and have been wrong before.
