PLOW-ABLE LAKE SNOWS ON SUNDAY

Written By: Scott Hetsko

The second shot of cold air will arrive early on Sunday which should align the wind off of Lake Ontario to allow for locally 6" or more of fluffy lake snow. The highest risk of this will be in Northern and Eastern Wayne County. Monroe county will get a wide range of snow from 1-2" in the Southern part of the county to possibly 6" near and North of Route 104.

In any other winter this would be just another round of lake effect snow. We'll be watching throughout Saturday and will get you updated.

  1. Boy, I hope your right Scott or weatherdan is going to blow a screw. And, I am also waiting for the "lake effect snow isn't real snow comments".

  2. I hope Scott is right, but I will be ok if we do not get the snow because
we have been dissappointed so much this year I am used to it now. Have a good weekend everyone. Be safe!!!

  3. Saw at least a dozen robins in the yard today. Hope they aren't the stupid ones. Would like to think they mean spring really is around the corner.
14 day outlook is still good--above ave temps. So we'll have a blip this weekend and it should all be gone by Friday.

  4. I am with WeathermanDan, just highly disappointed over the whole season. Not at anyone at the news station or anyone personal, it just stinks for us winter enthusiasts. I have waited all season to get our snowmobiles out and do some snow sledding with my girls...any chance of snow I am glued to this blog. I'm well south of Rochester so looks like it's no big deal for us once again. It's so frustrating watching the temps rise back up after we get a little snow...guess we have to wait for next season :-(

  5. I know i will get chewed out for saying this, but occasionally i watch other channels just to see what they r predicting. channel 10 has next week getting no high than 34 degrees, not the 40's everyone else is sowing, they also are saying to watch potential for storm. are they looking at different models or just way off, or do they know something we don't?

    ReplyDelete
  6. If I recall that channel also called for a storm too hit Superbowl weekend a week before and quickly changed their minds. I think all mets take the models and each form their own idea off of that.

  7. Yeah, I saw that too anonymous. Channel 13 is with channle 8 though with temps in the 40's. I am not sure where channel 10 is getting their info. I am sure they will come in line with 8 and 13. The NWS is also stating temps in the 40's.

  8. This front tonight looks very week. Not much precip with it showing on radar right now. Not sure we will get much of anything with it.

  9. Ooops, I mean weak not week.

  10. Ginger, I feel your pain. Hopefully things will change, but we are running out of time.

  11. I swear those guys on Ch 10 are invested in Wegmans. Their forecasts almost always show substantially worse weather than everyone else's. 7 days out they almost always show some sort of storm.

  12. I am so glad I sold my plow this winter!! I am ready for Spring!!

  13. It is sad that in Mid Feb. I am still telling my 2-year-old to go look out the window at the snow and he gets all excited. By this time it should be a normal occurance.

  14. Had only a half inch in North Western Wayne County.

  15. This winter for what it was is over. This latest Low that is on the coast is like a LP you would get in late March. The tilt of the sun is already showing winter timing is out of whack. We are pretty much weatherwise heading like it is April with all the climate facrors. There will not be any big snowstorm this winter for the east coast.

  16. snowing hard in webster!

  17. My 1- 2" is already 4" on the west side and it is snowing hard and is showing no signs of stopping. Easily will be over a foot by tomorrow if this keeps up.
Comforting to think this is supposed to be the "good" day of the weekend. Tomorrow should be real fun.

Interesting from the NWS, never have heard of this before................

HEAVY FREEZING SPRAY WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A HEAVY
FREEZING SPRAY WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST
    SUNDAY.

    * FREEZING SPRAY: THE COMBINATION OF ARCTIC AIR ARRIVING IN THE

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAVY FREEZING SPRAY WARNING MEANS HEAVY FREEZING SPRAY IS
EXPECTED TO RAPIDLY ACCUMULATE ON VESSELS. THESE CONDITIONS CAN

  20. freezing spray!?!?? I can't believe it ! there goes our snow totals. I am sick of this winter. Bring on spring.

  21. Most of today's snow was from an upper air low that is now moving South. Not much more snow in the forecast today. Next shot of snow arrives later tonight and on Sunday. Enjoy the Winter weather!!!

  22. where is everybody? channel 10 is still sticking with their long range forecast i mentioned earlier. NWS even though having temps near 40 talked a lot about several chances for snow this coming week especially toward the end of week. anyone have any thoughts

  23. Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. If you are that interested in what 10 is saying, go ask them please. Thank you very much.

  25. Nice to wake up to more snow than was forecasted. I had about 7 inches in Central Western Wayne county. Snowing hard right now. If this keeps up we will have more than a foot by tomorrow. I agree with Snowluver. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

  26. "This will tend to weaken through the afternoon before lifting back to the north tonight."

Does this mean we should expect more lake snows tonight?

    Thanks

  27. I was hoping we would get some bonus snow here well south of the thruway but no such luck. We got a few inches but not enough to get the snowmobiles out, the fields are not covered enough. I guess we are going to have to invest in a trailer and go to where the snow is. Have not had my snowmobiles out at all this season, has a full tank of gas and registered for the season. We missed out again...enjoy the snow for those of you that hit the jackpot this time around...i'll be waiting and waiting and waiting. If we don't get it this season, there is always next...ho hum :-(

  28. A good 8 inches in Lyons since last night. Very light and fluffy. Not much water in this snow.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Measured 12 inches on the deck here on the east side of Webster!! Yay snow!

    ReplyDelete
  30. A good 7-8" here in Chili! And Bristol Mountain was perfect for skiing today. If anyone is thinking about going, I would highly encourage you to do so!

    ReplyDelete
  31. well over 12 inches in webster probably around 15-17 inches here since yesterday and its still snowing

    ReplyDelete
  32. The lake effect has totally shut down. Too much shear now? Will it re-fire tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Light flurries picking back up, here in Greece! I've got over 12" in my backyard now :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Another 3 or 4 inches since my last report early this afternoon. Lyons is close to a foot of snow since last night. Winds now blowing things around as well.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do not think there will be much mure tonight weatherdan unless your in eastern wayne county or along 104 and north but who knows maybe the metro will get more they got more than predicted last night. LES very tricky to call the mets have done a good job. My interest is in next weekend I think there are ingrediants that could bring a big storm to the NY area. Wondering what weatherguy and David think about that potential? Also obviously what scott thinks about that too. There will be cold air and other favorable factors.Just throwing out my feeling that this could be a BIG storm have certainly been wrong in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Andrew, what model are you looking at? I do not see any storm for next weekend, but maybe I am not looking at it correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Be patient weatherdan there will be an amped up strom that goes through the ohio valley next Friday/Sat. a secondary LP will form just SE of NY and it will blow up and NY could be in for a big snowstorm. Just something to keep an eye on! IMO
