The Chill Returns for the Rest of the Month

Written by John DiPasquale:

After a break from the chill today, it will return with a gusty north-northwest wind later tonight into Thursday which will set the stage for a limited amount of lake effect rain & snow shower activity late tonight through early Thursday afternoon. Little, if any, accumulation is expected, but just the simple mention of snow will probably raise a few eyebrows after all the sun & warmth we experienced the last couple of weeks prior to this week.

There actually COULD be a system that's expected to dive to our south later Friday into Friday night that MAY deliver a little precipitation in here Friday afternoon & night. If this occurs, all track dependent of course, we could pick up a little mix &/or snow with at least minor accumulations over the hills South! Temperatures both Thursday & Friday will likely struggle to make the low to mid 40s, with wind chills Thursday in the 20s & low 30s for most of the day. Also, it appears we will likely have another frosty start to Friday too whether the storm system to the south affects us or not.

Warmer air will make a run at us for Sunday & Monday before probably getting pushed out Tuesday/Wednesday, which MAY be followed by prolonged chill with maybe even at least a little snow in the air. We'll see. We are due, though, for a colder than average month, so I would not be surpised to an overall chilly April, after several consecutive warm months. Time will ultimately tell.

Have a great one WNY!

  1. Great!! As soon as baseball starts. Opening day for the Red Wings will probably colder than any day in March. Perfect!!!!

  2. NWS is predicting above ave temps for April (as they did for last 5 months). let's hope they continue on their winning streak. A cold, wet April, though "normal" for this place will be a real bummer after such a beautiful March.

  3. Hi Anonymous,

We definitely could stay on a warmer than average track through April as a whole, but many signs pointing toward the opposite happening through the middle of the month anyways. We are so due for a colder than average, or even average month temperature wise! Not to say I want this to happen, but we are def due for a colder month. Time will tell ultimately.

    Have a good night Anonymous!

    Best,

    John

  4. Yup, 7-14 day is now trending to "average" temps-that is going to seem quite cool. Maybe it'll "warm up" again toward end of month. At least the trend seems to be for drier than normal--I really hope that holds as the ground is still super wet even after the sort of dry March. Winter, though very mild, was also very wet.
