Winter Tries to Return Late Friday...

Written by John DiPasquale:

Brisk, chilly & damp out there now, but it is beginning to dry, & should continue to do so as high pressure builds in from the west. I believe we will mix in enough dry air in the lower levels of the atmosphere to get the sun out at least a little bit before it goes down this evening.

The sky will clear tonight & with winds coupling I do expect some more frost to develop late, which will last through the first part of our Friday. Farmers take note & the proper precautions to protect your crops & fruit trees. Lows tonight will drop into the mid to upper 20s.

Late Friday into Friday night a storm system will track to the south & likely provide some precipitation to the area. The big question is the type, which will be dictated by the exact track the storm takes, & how much cold air is in place during the event. At this time, I would expect the precipitation to begin as a mix, but should quickly flip to snow, especially if there's enough dry air in place which will cause some evaporative cooling. Wet snow could come down at a decent clip Friday night before ending as flurries &/or a mix late Friday night Saturday morning. There's a possibility of a slushy coating to an inch or two for all, while 1 to as much as 3 or 4" will probably fall in the high terrain south of the Thruway.

The sky will slowly clear out some later Saturday, but it will remain chilly in the 40s for highs, but come Sunday into Monday it does look like we will warm back up into the 50s, & possibly the low 60s Monday. A few showers should also be around Sunday, & maybe even one or two lingering Monday.

Beyond Monday we will eventually most likely turn much colder again for the middle to end of next week with maybe even a bit more snow in the air. We shall see. Keep it here & we will let you know as next week comes into better focus.

Have a great day bloggers!
