Winter Returns Briefly

Written by John DiPasquale:

Winter is back for a couple of days winter weather lovers, but then it will disappear for awhile starting Sunday.

This afternoon will feature cellular snow showers/squalls & then some lake snows will occur tonight, especially north & east of Rochester initially, but should end up before ending in Rochester late tonight into the start of Saturday. Most of us will see nothing more than a coating to an inch or two tonight, but up along the lake shore in Monroe, Orleans & into Wayne Counties there will more than likely be 2 to as much as 4 or 5" of fluff in the most persistent snows in the aforementioned areas. Temperatures tonight will drop to within a few degrees of 20 with a biting wind.

After some lingering lake flurries Saturday morning, we will get some intervals of sun out Saturday & top out in the mid to perhaps upper 30s late in the day. Spring will then return for Sunday in the wake of a Saturday night warm front. Temperatures with a good deal of sun Sunday will shoot up well into the 50s to near 60 Sunday, & likely into the 60s for Monday! At this point, it looks like the unseasonably mild weather will for the most part take us right through St. Patrick's Day weekend with a little shower activity from time to time with a couple of cold fronts! Enjoy!

Have a great night & weekend bloggers!

  1. Am I reading the GFS model correctly? Is the latest run indicating temps could be in the 70's by NEXT weekend and the following Monday? I don't pretend to know all there is to know about understanding model runs so could someone help me out? The GFS seems to be showing such a long stretch of above to way above normal temps.

  2. Sal, many meteorologists are seeing the same thing. There's a commentary on the Ch 9 weather blog (Syracuse) about this very topic.

  3. So is it an early spring or is Mother Nature just toying with us?
