Above Average Temps through Midday Wednesday

Written by John DiPasquale:

Low pressure located to the east will stay away from us today, but with some low level moisture & heating of the day may scare up an isolated pop up shower/storm or two across the Central, Southern & Eastern Finger Lakes this afternoon.  Most of us will remain dry right through tonight with highs today in the mid 70s this afternoon, but cooler 60s near the lakeshore.  Tonight will be mild under a clear to partly cloudy sky with lows in the 50s and patchy fog possible.

The cold front across the Central Great Lakes as of this typing early Tuesday afternoon will drop through the region later Wednesday morning/early afternoon with a few scattered showers/storm possible just ahead & with the front.  Behind the front it will turn drier & much cooler!  We will have a late morning/midday high in the low 70s, before readings drop to near 60 by 5 or 6 Wednesday evening with a gusty west-northwest wind!

Thursday will be chilly, especially to start with maybe even a touch of frost in a few of the normally colder spots in the outlying areas.  Highs on Thursday will only reach the low 60s, despite a decent amount of mid to late strong May sun.

Cool high pressure building in Wednesday night & Thursday will crest overhead Thursday night into the start of Friday, providing us with another chilly beginning Friday.  Later Friday into the weekend, though, are position relative to the area of high pressure will shift to the backside, which will lead to a warming return flow.  Right now, it appears that low to mid 80s are pretty likely for the Saturday through Monday time frame, so if you 've opened your pool a little early this year you could very well be in luck!

Some cooler, more seasonable air will attempt to return by next Tuesday/Wednesday next week.  We'll see...

Enjoy the nice weather this WNY!
