SO MUCH TO LEARN FROM ONE PICTURE

High resolution satellite imagery can show SO MUCH about weather! I love this image taken at 3:00 this afternoon. Notice the flat, grey appearance of stratus clouds east of Rochester. You can also pick out some fair weather cumulus that developed as sunshine created instability in the Genesee Valley this afternoon.
Lastly, Southwest wind off of Lake Erie blew stable lake air over the Niagara Frontier. The "Lake shadow" resulted in a sunny afternoon for our pals in Buffalo! Pretty neat, right?
