Crank Up the Heat...

Written by: Stacey Pensgen

...ok, maybe not "heat" and only for a day or so. That mega heat from the Ohio Valley is creeping into the area today and especially on Tuesday. Some towns may flirt with 90° by Tuesday afternoon. If we make it there at the airport, it'll only be the 3rd 90° day this season. That being said, enjoy the sunshine today and tomorrow! A cold front whispers through Wednesday morning, knocking us back into the 70s for much of the rest of the week.

  1. No rain with the cold front? One day heat wave is my kind of heat wave.

  2. Did someone say beach day?

Trick question, that was me who said it, and nothing short of an apocalypse of zombie robot dinosaurs is going to stop me from having one tomorrow afternoon.

  4. Looks like 10 consecutive days so far with only a trace of rain reported on 1 day.

If the weekend can remain mostly dry with only pop up showers it's gonna feel like a balmy summer weekend.

First frost = pretty technical around here. It can be 45 on the lakeshore, 32 in Mendon, Newark, Lyons and other low elevation areas to the south. Where's the location of the bet?

  9. No clue about the first frost, but I can tell you with confidence that hell froze over today between approximately 1 PM and 4:15 PM this afternoon.

  10. This from the NWS rings a little bit like a mixture of summer and fall:

"WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND INTO THURSDAY WILL BE THE MOST ACTIVE AND POTENTIALLY MOST IMPACTFUL WEATHER FOR THIS TIME PERIOD.

ALOFT AN ANOMALOUSLY -2.5SD UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL BE ADVANCING FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS ACROSS THE CENTRAL GREAT LAKES WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND TOWARDS JAMES BAY THURSDAY MORNING. AT THE SURFACE AN AREA OF DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE WILL BE TAKING A SIMILAR TRACK FROM THE UPPER CENTRAL LAKES EARLY WEDNESDAY EVENING TO NORTHEAST OF LAKE HURON BY THURSDAY MORNING. THIS SURFACE LOW WILL BE DRAGGING A COLD FRONT ACROSS THE EASTERN GREAT LAKES THURSDAY...WITH MODELS IN PRETTY GOOD AGREEMENT THAT THE FRONT WILL BE NEAR FAR WESTERN NEW YORK AROUND DAYBREAK...AND CROSSING THE GENESEE VALLEY...FINGER LAKES REGION AND EASTERN LAKE ONTARIO REGION LATE MORNING AND EARLY AFTERNOON.

OF CONCERN WILL BE A 50 TO 55 KNOT LLJ AROUND 925 HPA ON THE EASTERLY SIDE OF THE DEEPENING AREA OF LOW PRESSURE. THIS LOW LEVEL JET WILL LIKELY BE CROSSING THE EASTERN GREAT LAKES REGION LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING. TIMING WISE SURFACE INSTABILITY WILL REMAIN POOR...HOWEVER IN A DEEP MOISTURE RICH ENVIRONMENT (PWATS NEAR 2 INCHES) THERE MAY BE ENOUGH DYNAMICAL FORCING FROM THE ANOMALOUSLY DEEP TROUGH THAT ANY CONVECTIVE SHOWERS (WITH OR WITHOUT LIGHTNING) MAY BE ABLE TO TRANSFER THIS STRONG JET DOWN TO THE SURFACE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING. FOR NOW WILL MENTION THIS WIND THREAT ALONG WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME HEAVY RAIN AS TROPICAL MOISTURE IS ENTRAINED INTO THIS SYSTEM FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING IN THE HWO PRODUCT."
