WINTRY WEATHER LATE NEXT WEEK?

Written By: Scott Hetsko

Lots of talk about the upcoming season and no doubt the most dominant player in our weather will be La Nina. Often times in strong La Nina's, winter weather arrives early in the Northeast. Late next week a deep trough of low pressure will amplify over New England. Long range models are focusing on surface low pressure developing in the Mid Atlantic states next Friday.

The model I most trust long range is the ECMRF model which seem best equipped to handle the physics in the long term. If this model verifies then we may get a measurable snowfall here in Rochester, stay tuned! Long range forecasts are very tough. Last Friday we forecast low 60s for today and the high was 46!

  1. Scott,
At this time of year, what do 850 temps need to get down to on a cloudy day for precip to fall as mostly snow?
