6-12" IN GENERAL FROM THE LATEST STORM
Low pressure held true to the forecast and delivered 12 hours of steady to heavy snowfall. Amazingly, this storm behaved about exactly as we expected! Snow began to fall steady around 5 a.m. and continued through mid afternoon. Snow initially was wet but became drier as slightly colder air worked into the area later in the morning.
Thanks to everyone for all their reports on snow amounts, keep em coming!

Scott am I correct in saying that things look pretty quiet around here in terms of any potential snowstorms the next 10 days? In fact would it be safe to say this is the last shot of any significant snow? March is coming and if nothing big early in March then gererally we are safe.
ReplyDeleteWell, this turned out to be a very satisfying storm for me. I hope the rest of those people craving for something more than "nickel and dime fluff" feel the same way. There were many points in the day when you looked around and had NO doubt that we were in the middle of a true snowstorm. It was a healthy dosing of snow, and it was area-wide. The roads got a little scary out there at some points in the day, however. Lots of vehicles taking turns WAAAY too fast and nosing their cars into snow banks. I was close to being on the receiving end of some of those bad drivers, but fortunately I stayed safe. Funny thing is, some of the safest yet confident drivers on the road in Rochester today were ones driving cars with out of state license plates (including one from Florida).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it was a good snowstorm, and Scott did a great job yet again. Seriously man, can't you get a few storms wrong like every other normal meteorologist? I'm starting to think you're "one with the atmosphere" or something. Anyway, what i'm trying to say, in my own dorky way, is great work this winter, Scott.
Now sleep in tomorrow and enjoy the snow covered February morning with a hot cup of coffee.
This was a very satisfying snowfall indeed. Just what the dr. ordered...now going to enjoy it this weekend before it all melts away.

I appreciate the nice words "Lakeffect" but I can assure you that I've had a few misses in the past and will again in the future. I agree that it was fun to see a prolonged, steady snowfall in the area today. How about this little nugget, this is the first Winter with 30" or more of snow in DEC, JAN AND FEB since 1978-1979!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the snow this weekend!

DK do you see anything in the future as far as possible snow storms or do you think we are basically done this winter?
ReplyDeleteI don't think we're done for the winter yet. Winter might have one more punch of snow for us around the second or third week of March. Ensembles show a chilly period setting up beginning around March 6th or 7th, with implications of a possibly active storm track near our area at the same time. In the meantime, though, it looks fairly quiet snowfall-wise. An inch or two here and there, with seasonable ups and downs should just about do it for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI will say that Monday might need to be watched closely as a good amount of rain with thawing temps on top of all the water-laden snowpack could cause some creeks/streams and rivers to rise. Not to mention poor drainage flooding. Wouldn't be surprised if a Flood Watch is issued soon depending on how much rain we get.
Thanks for your feedback DK! Hope to see a shot at one more good storm before spring. March ususally has been an active month around here but usually our bigger storms have come in the first week of March that is why I thought maybe we are finished. Thanks again
