WE NEED YOUR HELP! SNOW AMOUNTS

10AM Update by: Brian Neudorff

Heaviest of the snow will be now through midday and even mid afternoon for locations farther east. Gusty winds making it hard to measure amounts but I would guess there are many from Rochester west that already have 4 to 6 inches of snow.
Heaviest area of snow will slowly push east this morning and into the early afternoon. Because of that with snow rates 1 to 2 inches an hour included all of the area in the 6 to 12 inch. Very similar to what Scott had earlier last night.

If you don't have to go out enjoy the snow and a synoptic event at that. For those longing for a synoptic event here is one. Also please please let us know your snow amounts, especially now until 11:30. I could really use those numbers for our noon broadcast.

This may not be the epic synoptic snowstorm some of you have been waiting for all Winter, but it keeps upping our seasonal snowfall tally higher and higher!

We're looking for snow reports from today's snowfall. If you have a minute or two, just let us know where you are, how much snow you've recorded since this morning, and what time the measurement was. Feel free to send along any pictures, as well as conditions where you are. You can send those pictures to weather@wroctv.com

With a moderate band lining up across Orleans County and Northwest Monroe County, we've also updated numbers to include those areas in the 4-8" range. Thanks, and we'll keep you updated!

  1. Woke up to only about 2" in Greece, but it's only intensified since then. Flakes have gotten much larger, and I'd say we're at about 4" now on the ground. It's the blowing that's crazy though, I can barely see across the street!

  2. It looks like a nice huge band of snow has formed near Buffalo... NWS has increased snow amounts considerably to 8-12 inches for Rochester and 10-14 for Buffalo

  3. Anonymous - we just went back to the orignial forecast from last night. This "band" is not lake effect but a deformation zone. This area will slowly push east with snow rates likely near 2 inches per hour. -Brian

  4. Syracuse is getting closer and closer to that 200 inch mark... if they get 12 inches it will but them 38 inches shy of that 200 mark

  5. We have 7.5 inches of new snow in Livonia.

  6. I live in Henrietta and the snow started at about 5:30 this morning. On my driveway we have about 5 to 8 inches of snow.

  7. Looks like the back edge of the snow is approaching Toronto at this time. It seems to be moving southeast at a pretty good clip. Any call on when things will settle down in this area?

  8. In Newark we have around 5 1/2" of snow at 11:39am. Loven it!

  9. I live in Rochester but am visiting the southern tier - Wellsville, NY (near the PA border). We have gotten about 10 inches down here, snow has let up a bit looks like from the radar we may be done with the heaviest of snow in the southern tier.

  10. I was just driving home and it was a straight blizz out there! This storm way over did itself, but i'm not complaining! But here in chili, all the snow has drifted but based on the measurements, I would guess around 8-9 inches.

  11. As usual, hard to tell here in Hilton, but we are definitely on the low end...maybe 4 inches total and the snow seems to be winding down. It's so windy, so again we see grass in some places and drifts in others. I'm okay with being on the low end this time. I'm done with snow. Bring on spring!!

  12. M in Hilton,
How far are you from the lake shore?

  13. Tough to tell just how much snow fell what with all the wind, but a safe guess would be between 10 and 12 inches in Lyons at 1 p.m.

  14. My younger brother actually left a wheelbarrow outside last night while he was building ramps for his snowboard, and it made the perfect measuring instrument! I measured 10.5 inches at 1 p.m, so its probably around 11 inches now. Representing the west side in chili!

  15. 11 inches in North Gates.

  16. Where is Scott today? The going out on a limb with this one back fired a bit when he made the change late to back to 4-8 for metro area and less NW. Looks like this storm produced what he was originally thinking and did strengthen a bit. I am happy about that glad the most accurate in Rochester was off a tad. These storms have all been tough to figure. That is why I am wondering why it is a lock that the Monday/Tuesday storm is going to go to our west? How with all the unpredictability with the models this winter can everyone be sure of that track? Is it because it is coming from a different area? I am a rookie please help me out. Also are there any other snowstorms on the horizon.

  17. 8" near Powder Mills Park on the Eastside

  18. It was nice to see all the big cities seeing all rain. We got all the snow as it should be. What made this storm a real winter storm was the winds. We had sustained winds of 25mph at all times. The gusts were 33-40mph. Nobody got the winds right, especially the National Weather Service. Their sustained winds were way too low.

  19. It is VERY difficult to measure the snow with all the drifting...I would have to guess 8-9" here in Wayland.

  20. With today's 7.5 inches at the airport, Rochester's OFFICIAL season total is up to 109.5"

    ReplyDelete
  21. In Henrietta we have about 10 inches on the ground.

  22. Scott,

  25. Just about 8 inches from the storm...not a real big one but decent and loved it

  26. DK....just saw your post. If you are still reading, we are about 1.5 miles from the lake. It seems like we are in a weird little pocket. We usually miss the heavy snowfall, but we always get the terrible wind!
