Chilly through Tuesday

Written by John DiPasquale:

A couple of storm systems will affect the area over the next few days with even a little snow expected to fly for some later today & again on Thursday! Crazy, but not that crazy. If you remember we had measurable snow last Mother's Day in May! Hopefully we will not have to deal with that this year. I wouldn't be surprised, though, with the way this spring is going so far.

Temperatures for much of this week
will be well below average, with the exception of Wednesday when mid 60s could be realized! Bring it!!

Right now Easter weekend looks a bit damp with temperatures in the 50s, but there is still time for that to change. Stay tuned.

  1. This is terrible! In a few weeks it will be the Lilac Festival. If this Spring keeps up like the way it has been going, forget about seeing anything in full bloom.

Hopefully things will turn around come May. However, looking at long range climate forecasts, we might be in store for a very cool and damp summer.

  2. It's a pathetic looking 7 day forecast, that's for sure.

  3. Just wait till mid next week. I see a major shift for several days to above average warmth. Maybe 70's for a couple days from Tuesday through Thursday.

  4. I see that warmup too but it will be short lived and filled with wind, rain and possible storms. Not exactly what I would call a real shift in our weather.

  5. blah, looks like we're getting into one of those self-perpetuating patterns of wetness.

  6. Scott,
I saw that the NAO and AO might go way into negative territory. I know that can sometimes be an early indication of cold weather for the northeast during the winter. Does the same result apply during this time of year? or is it one of those "same players, different game" type of situation where the atmosphere reacts differently to it than it would during the winter?

  7. Remember that song "Misery"? It was written about the climate in WNY.
This year takes all misery awards. I've been here 40 years and never saw such consistent horrible weather--5 straight months with no relief. Even the few "warm" days are useless--wind, monsoon etc.

  8. The weather patterns and climate is changing. Well, at least we will save money this summer on air conditioning if it remains cool.

  9. SummerFan,

A negative NAO typically means unusually chilly, relatively speaking, & at times an unsettled pattern for any time of the year. I did see the -NAO trying to set up for the end of this month & beginning of May, but it still is pretty far out there so lots can still change between now & then. It does look like an overall warmer week next week, but right now it does appear somewhat unsettled. We'll see. At least it looks warmer! We'll see how it pans out.
