Chilly Today, but Warming Trend Coming!
Written by John DiPasquale:
Well, well...another pretty chilly day is on the way for today with a bit of rain & possibly even a little snow & sleet mixed in there, especially over the high terrain this afternoon & early tonight. Thankfully, the system responsible for the precipitation later today is a fast mover & will clear the way for high pressure & some sun tomorrow. Temperatures today will likely be stuck in the 40s, while many of us should crack into the low 50s on Thursday, except near the lake shore where it will likely get no higher than the low 40s due to the influence of a northeast breeze off chilly Lake Ontario.
The system that we thought would affect us more so later Friday into Friday night, now appears to be moving a bit further south & as a result I only believe we will get some increasing clouds from the system & possibly a couple late day & night time showers mainly south of Rochester.
The picture above shows some incredible warmth for this time of year blowing in on southerly winds over the weekend, especially on Sunday! At this point, it looks like we will have plenty of dry time Saturday & Sunday with temperatures topping out around 60 Saturday & POSSIBLY shooting well up into the 70s to MAYBE even 80 with enough sun to finish out the weekend. Of course, as you know the weekend is still a few days away so things can change. If they do we will let you know here on News 8. Spring Fever is really brewing!
Wow, just looked at that map you posted. It has a tongue of mid teens above zero celcius at the 850 mb level. Let's hope that we get some bonus amounts of sunshine during that time, because I agree temperatures could make a run at 80 degrees with the sun. I'm trying to think back on last year when Rochester hit 86F on the 2nd of April. I think we were around 18C at 850mb when that happened. In any case, the timing is great for the weekend. It won't be long before the trees begin to bud, and folks break out the lawn mowers.
ReplyDeleteYou are right! As long as the next 7 to 10 days pan out with additional warmth, some showers & sun we should really see things green up out there over the next couple of weeks! Without the foliage on the trees when there's a good amount of sun the temps almost always warm nicely & usually climb higher than the data suggests. Time will tell! Have a great day DK!
