Flood Watch Tonight
Written by John DiPasquale:
I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. At least Saturday afternoon was very nice! The rainy spring of 2011 continues.
It's quiet out there now, but some more rain, heavy at times, is on the way later today & especially tonight. A developing storm across the Southern Plains will head northeast over the next 24 to 48 hours & aid in pushing a warm front into & eventually through the area later tonight & tomorrow. This will be the culprit for the rains, which may add up to an inch or two late today through the start of tomorrow. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for much of the area from this evening through the start of our Tuesday. So, if you live in a flood prone area make sure you are prepared for the potential of some flodding tonight & tomorrow morning.
Once the warm front slowly clears the area later tomorrow, we will feel near 70 degree warmth develop with humidity. There will be scattered showers & a few storms around Tuesday afternoon, but at least it will be quite warm. A warm breeze will continue to blow through Wednesday, with scattered, mainly afternoon, showers & storms once again. Highs Wednesday should make the low to mid 70s, if not a bit higher with more sun.
A strong cold front will blow through early Thursday with a few showers & storms possible. Much cooler & somewhat drier air will temporarily blow in Thursday with temperatures falling out of the 60s & into the lower 50s by day's end.
It will likely be a chilly, damp & windy end to the work & school week, but the start of the weekend looks great right now. Stay tuned.
I think I have this weather thing figured out...it snowed everyday all winter and it's going to rain all summer! Quite simple!
ReplyDeleteAccu-weather is showing rain just about everyday for the next 14 days!
There is a rumor going around that there is a chance (albeit small) that conditions could be right for an isolated tornado or two Wednesday. Is this true?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree that this coming weekend looks great. 60's with sunshine on Saturday would finally bring everybody out to enjoy the weather. A warm, sunny weekend is MUCH needed right about now.
We will be in a decent amount of directional shear Tuesday afternoon. A slight risk for a few rotating storms, "slight" risk!!!

Glad you did that "we need the rain dance" a couple of weeks ago. Like I said then it'll never stop and it hasn't. We get 3 dry days in a row and one met or another starts on 'we need the rain". Rochester never needs rain--it gets plenty without asking for it.
ReplyDeleteSal in Lyons has it right-- a year of straight misery.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure THAT is why it's been raining every day. If only Scott had not done the rain dance, it would have been 70 and sunny this whole time! (Insert eyeroll here!) :)
