Foggy Start; Stormy Finish Today
Written by John DiPasquale:
After a foggy, quiet beginning to this Tuesday, I believe with a warm front slowly passing through later today & early tonight, daytime heating & lots of moisture in the atmosphere we are in for a fairly widespread break out of showers & storms later this afternoon & evening. Some of these storms could become strong to severe with damaging winds, large hail, flooding rains & POSSIBLY even an isolated tornado. There will be a good amount of directional wind shear in the lower levels of the atmosphere this afternoon & evening. With that being said, any severe storm that does develop could have some rotation & that's why there's a chance of a tornado with any severe storm that breaks out later on. Most, if not all, of us will not see a tornado later today, but there is a chance that one or two may at least temporarily drop out of a severe storm. Stay tuned later today into the evening for the latest on the showers & storms with News 8 Chief Meteorologist Scott Hetsko. Either way, there will likely be a lot of rain falling from these storms in a short amount of time which will aid in causing some localized flash & poor drainage flooding. I also believe that the all-time wettest April on record here in Rochester will fall later today or tonight. Through midnight last night Rochester had received 5.16" of rain, while in the wettest April on record back in 1929 5.41" of water fell. So, yes it appears we will not only break the all-time wettest April record here in Rochester, but we should smash it.
I'm sure many will disagree but I'm pumped...If it's gonna be this wet, there might as well be some severe storms to make it interesting. I will be watching for that funnel cloud :)
ReplyDeleteIs the warm front stationary to our south? Just curious when its going to get here since its in the 70's in the southerntier, but 50's north.
ReplyDeleteWell, that downpour must have put us close to, if now breaking the record rainfall for April!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo much for the warm air in Rochester today. As of 3:45PM it is STILL in the upper 40's near the lake, and only 50's and 60's across the metro. The skies keep trying to clear, but then fill back in with clouds. Meanwhile, drive 20 minutes south on rt.390 to Avon and it's 77 humid, summery degrees, with sunshine!
