WET AND WINDY SATURDAY, SORRY!

Written By: Scott Hetsko

I don't like forecasting bad weather on the weekend. You work hard all week and then you have to be inside all day while it rains outside. Rain won't fall every hour of the day tomrrow but most of the day will be wet. Winds will howl out of the Southeast over 30 mph at times.

Windy and cool on Sunday but at least it won't rain as much. Departing low pressure could swing in some showers but most of the area will be dry. At least two seperate storm systems will cross Rochester again next week. Look for more up and down temperatures and rain.

  4. Whenever a very deep low is centered to our northwest, with a tight pressure gradient, WNY is placed in the high wind sector. The winds tend to accelerate along what's called the "lake plain", which is the flatter (less hilly) land that runs from Buffalo (and the niagara frontier) westward to Rochester. It also gets added enhancement from the funnelling effect of lake Erie. Yes, lake Erie can impact Rochester occasionally when it comes to high winds and even rare lake effect. A 60 MPH wind gust is quite possible if the low intensifies as deeply as currently projected, and if it takes the track currently projected.

  5. ***make that "eastward" to Rochester. Not "westward".
