WILD AND WINDY EARLY WEDNESDAY
Written By: Scott Hetsko
A wind maximum associated with a low level jet will push through our area between 5am and 9am tomorrow morning. Look at the bright red on the 850 millibar wind map to your right. That area is forecast wind around 70 knots. All we need is a few thunderstorms to develop and mix that wind to the surface. The highest risk for damaging wind will be in the Finger Lakes and Eastern Southern Tier early Wednesday.
Scott, Is that warming trend the first part of next week the start of something long term or just wishful thinking on my part?
ReplyDeleteI think its a sign that the cold will be LESS cold. After all, May is 10 days away...it's GOT to get better.
ReplyDeleteScott,
ReplyDeleteI just saw this forecast on the link below from the HPC for next Tuesday. It has us making a run at 80 one week from today (has 83F for Buffalo!) Is this possible??

Absolutely! I've got us at 75 but we can easily get over 80 especially if we get sun and strong SW wind ahead of the cold front. That could also spell strong storms but that's too far away to be sure.

Say what some will about WNY's sometimes dismal springs...but we really win the day with those strong southerly winds sloping down from the hills just to our south. There's a reason that the lake plain of Western New York has a climate / growing season more similar to far downstate new york. Later freezes in the fall due to the warm lakes, and temps are often beefed up a good 5 to 10 degrees warmer in the spring and summer whenever the winds are SW or S. It's all great stuff that make our area gorgeous and fruitful. I expect a good deal of color developing at Highland park by the end of next week! Those bushes are already beginning to bud. They're just waiting on a few warm days and mild nights.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, Roc. Many have short memories, we will get long stretches of sunny, warm days. I can recall many summer's with 7-10 days of 80 degree air and sun. We'll get there...

Scott,
ReplyDeleteWill this rain ever stop?????
Scott, do you have any rain totals from last night?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous & David,
ReplyDeleteThe heaviest is basically done, though we will have a few more rounds of showers through the early to mid afternoon. Briefly milder late morning & early afternoon, but then turning much colder again with lots of wind to finish out today.
Rain totals of about 1.5" fell here in the Rochester area last night & early this morning, hence some of the flooding in urban areas.
Have a great day everyone!
