Summer is Only About 60 to 90 miles to the East!

Wow! Check out the temperature at 11 this morning in Syracuse! It's 75! That in itself is not impressive, but when comparing it to what we are here in Rochester 53, it most certainly is! So it's early spring here, while it's late spring/early summer in Syracuse only about 80 or 90 miles away! There is obviously a front that lies between Syracuse & Rochester which will move east a little bit as the afternoon progresses. So our winds will continue to blow out of the east-northeast, while our friends down the thruway to the east will hold on to more of a warmer southerly flow. Occasional showers & drizzle will continue with areas of fog as well through the remainder of this Friday. Temperatures will be stuck in the 50s for the greater Rochester area points north & west. The southeastern Finger Lakes (eastern part of our viewing area) will be in the mid 60s to low 70s this afternoon.
After a damp, cool night tonight & start to tomorrow, I believe winds at all levels of the atmosphere will turn to the south for most which will push the fading storm system, & it's upper level energy north as winds turn to the south in advance of another storm over the Northern Plains. Now I still think we will have to contend with a few showers & even an PM storm or two from time to time, but we should see some intervals of sun develop Saturday afternoon & as a result of the southerly flow & a little sun temperatures will likely make the low to mid 70s for most except 60s lakeside.
Another surge of warm air will make a run at us for Sunday setting off scattered showers & storms, a few of which could turn nasty. Highs Sunday with a bit of sun from time to time will make the low 80s.
The holiday itself on Monday looks very summery & nice! A little weak backdoor cold front will likely fall apart around the area Monday morning with some clouds, otherwise we should experience increasing amounts of sun for the afternoon & highs reaching well into the 80s. By next Tuesday many of us should be up around 90 with sun!! If you don't like the heat don't worry because it appears that the pattern will quickly change for you & providing a significant cool down for next Wednesday & beyond. Stay tuned to News 8 for the latest in the coming days. Have a great Friday & holiday weekend everyone!
Afternoon, John,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you were able to pin point the general time when that warm front will pass the Rochester area? I have plans for early tomorrow morning, and I was hoping that we'd be in that "warm sector" by the time 8 or 9 AM comes tomorrow. Otherwise I will have to plan to wear the fleece Thanks in Advance....and by the way you're doing a GREAT job here in Rochester!!!
