This Block Equals Bad Weather
Written by: Stacey Pensgen
Remember last week when we went almost a week and a half with nothing more than a trace of rain? And the sun was our friend? The reason we saw such nice weather last week is basically the same reason we will see rain most of this week: a blocking weather pattern. Last week we were stuck under the ridge, or the "nice" side of the block. Over the next 5 days, we will be stuck on the stormy side of the block.
While the entire week won't be a washout, we have to keep showers in the forecast through Friday. That being said, rain chances will tend to diminish through the week as the upper level low starts to lose it's influence on us, and temperatures will gradually make it back into the 60s and eventually the 70s.
Once we get stuck in these blocking patterns, its hard to break them down. If there is any good news, it's looking more and more like we will see nice weather for the final weekend of the Lilac Festival. Fingers crossed!
Isn't this basically the same weather pattern that we have had since last fall, with a couple of exceptions...one around New Years...then one near Presidents Day...then last week?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chris...this is the same 'ol weather pattern since last fall. I can't recall such a horrible 7 months of weather.
ReplyDeleteThe northern hemisphere, in general, is experiencing a somewhat unusual blocking pattern. What makes this so unusual is that the blocking pattern keeps returning, and in some cases, being extreme. I recall the National Weather Service describing the weather pattern as something UN-Earthly over the winter when the weather pattern was traveling from east to west across Canada due to extreme blocking. This goes back to the question of low solar activity and/or possible effects from recent volcanic activity. The climate is changing, folks....but NOT for the warmer! A few experts in the field of climatology have been warning us of these changes for several years, but they have unfortunately been disregarded by Al Gore's global warming alarmist crew.
ReplyDeleteGood luck driving around in your energy efficient golf carts when there is 6 feet of snow on the ground.
