Welcome to Summer!

Written by John DiPasquale:

So far so good on this Tuesday. Overall, I believe the official start of the summer season will turn out to be quite nice with just a few widely scattered showers & storms moving in later this afternoon & evening, especially south of the Rochester area. The culprit for the few widely scattered showers/storm is a warm front that will inch closer & ultimately move across the region Wednesday night into Thursday. This will result in more numerous showers & storms breaking out Wednesday & Thursday, but I don't believe either day will be a washout. This is good news for the LPGA, but you'll likely want to have the rain jackets & umbrellas handy ladies when you head out Thursday to kick off the championship play. Since quite a few clouds will be around both Wednesday & Thursday, temperatures should be held in check in the mid & upper 70s with lots of humidity.

Thursday night into Friday a cold front will slowly slip through with a few more showers/storm to end the week. Humidity levels will begin to come down on Friday.

The weekend at this point looks pretty good with just a spotty shower or two possible Saturday thanks to some lingering low level moisture. Sunday will likely be the better of the two days with more in the way of sun & a nice cool breeze. Highs will be in the mid 70s Saturday, & low to mid 70s Sunday. It will be nice n' comfy to finish out the LPGA this weekend!

Stay tuned to News 8 for the latest regarding the rest of the week & weekend outlook. Have a great day & enjoy the nice weather everyone!

This question is to any of the mets. How common and vulnerable is Western New York to experiencing extreme drought conditions? I ask because it seems like the worst droughts always hit across what is known as the "sun belt" down south, or across the western United States. Could or have conditions ever become dry enough around these parts to create the type of drought that the Southeast U.S experienced a few years ago? Is there something about our particular climate in WNY that would keep us from ever falling into a severe news-making drought?

    Thanks,
    Bill

  2. I did a quick look through drought monitor's website... I only found 2-3 examples of D2 drought and 0 of D3 - D4... the mets would have to correct me if I am wrong.
