A Few Spotty Showers
Written by John DiPasquale:
Well, it's like pulling teeth to get a good soaking rain to occur here. A lot of the forecast information, model data, was suggesting some decent rains for us today yesterday at this time, but much of it will pass by to the south & fall apart as it attempts to move in. However, I still believe there will be a few spotty, mainly light, showers moving through today. Combine a few scattered showers & the mainly gray sky, & believe it or not, but we may not reach 80 degrees or higher this afternoon. As mentioned in yesterday's blog, if we don't reach 80 today it will be the first time this month that 80+ degrees is not achieved. The last time Rochester did not get to 80 for a high was back on June 30th. It's going to be close today. Stay tuned.
Tonight should be mainly quiet, but more numerous showers & storms will likely break out tomorrow ahead & with the cold front as it passes by. Any storm that does pop tomorrow will have the potential to become strong to severe amongst the warmth & very high humidity levels.
Once the cold front passes, the air will turn a bit cooler & more importantly drier & more comfy Friday night into Saturday. There should be a decent amount of sun Saturday with a slight risk for a pop up shower/storm. The weather will remain nice for the beach & pool Sunday with considerable sun & a bit more humidity. Highs Saturday will be in the mid 80s, & between 85 & 90 Sunday.
A weak cold front will likely set off a couple of scattered storms Monday, otherwise much of Monday & first half of next week is looking quite nice & more comfortable.
So, the best chance of getting some decent, appreciable rains out of the next 7 days looks to be tomorrow, Friday. Keep your fingers crossed that the rain & storms developing this morning with this cold front out in the Upper Midwest & Plains holds together as it heads east. Otherwise, the next threat of some significant rain may not come until later next week or beyond! Come on Mother Nature, bring us some much needed rains!
THE NWS KEEPS TALKNG ABOUT HEAVY RAIN THAT JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN. NOW THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT 1-2 INCHES TOMORROW POSSIBLE. IF THE CURRENT PATTERN CONTINUES OF FRONTS WEAKENING AS THEY COME TOWARDS WESTERN NY, I DOUBT THAT WILL HAPPEN. YESTERDAY EVERYONE WAS SAYING THAT WE WOULD SEE HEAVY RAIN TODAY. NOW EVERYONE IS SAYING WE WILL SEE HEAVY RAIN TOMORROW. EVENTULLY SOMEONE WILL BE RIGHT.
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to start talking about winter? :-)
ReplyDeleteOnce it starts it'll never stop---think dry.
ReplyDeletethink wet...i dont know about you but my lawn is brown!!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteFinally significant rainfall of about a half an inch to 2+" will definitely help the lawns out somewhat, but since the rain came down so heavily, it's not totally soaking into the ground. It's running off into the culverts & aiding in some poor drainage, urban & small stream flooding taking place late this morning & early this afternoon. A lot more dry weather appears to be on tap for us for the next several days after today. Still looks like potential pattern change toward next weekend & beyond. We'll see.
