Nice n' Refreshing Today!

Written by John DiPasquale:

Mother nature will provide us with her own air conditioning today & for that matter right into tomorrow too! Temperatures with some extra clouds & even a few spotty pop up showers/storm this afternoon will likely not get out of the 70s. After a quiet & comfortably cool tonight, tomorrow will be delightful with lots of sun & seasonably warm temperatures.

High pressure will keep us protected through the start of Saturday with more sun & warmer temperatures Friday with highs in the low to mid 80s.

The weekend will be very warm to hot with highs in the mid 80s Saturday & near 90 Sunday with a few scattered storms possibly popping up Saturday afternoon & evening & maybe one or two on Sunday. Bottom line, there will be plenty of dry time this weekend, which is great news for any outdoor plans you may have, i.e. swimming! Enjoy WNY!!

  1. Any thoughts on some of the forecast models buiding a huge ridge over our region next week, with 850mb temps hovering around 20C for several days? I worry about temps that warm given how extremely dry our soil is.

  2. Can someone answer Summerfan. It is a great question.

  3. Hi SummerFan,

Yes. There actually is some question as to how much of that ring of fire actually builds into the northeast. Some of the longer range guidance is all for the big ridge of high heat & humidity building in next week, but one of the longer range computer forecast guidance that usually does a great job with these types of forecasts brings a backdoor cold front through Tuesday & has been hinting at this for the last two or three runs. Some of the newest guidance that was suggesting this ridge is now also beginning to back off from this ridge early this morning. So it definitely will be interesting to see how this pans out. Stay tuned throughout the next few days as we fine tune the forecast with the latest data as it becomes available. We definitely could use some rain too, but I really don't see much at this point. It may take a tropical system to deluge us sometime in August &/or September. We will see??

  4. Thanks, John. I'd like to see us under that hot ridge for a couple days, just to experience it. But, I have a feeling that back door cool front would be very welcome after awhile. We sure do need the rain. I don't recall ever seeing it this dry before, and thats saying a lot. Even the trees are beginning to shed their leaves to cope with the lack of water.
