Rain?!?!

Written by John DiPasquale:

No you are not seeing things. That is rain showing up on the Storm Doppler Radar earlier today. Not a lot, but some much needed rains moved through this morning ahead of a backdoor cold front. The front itself will move through late today/early tonight & in it's wake it will turn a bit cooler & less humid later tonight & tomorrow. Between now & later this evening until that front gets through the potential of seeing a few more pop-up showers & storms is there through dinner time. Shortly thereafter the atmosphere will become more stable & high pressure building in from the north & west should provide us with a somewhat more comfortable air mass for Tuesday. Unfortunately, this will not last, as the backdoor cold front will get pulled back through as a warm front early Wednesday & in it's wake the hottest air mass of the season will begin to enter Wednesday & likely peak on Thursday.

Highs Wednesday with a bit of a southwest breeze & lots of sun should make the low 90s, while more sun & mid to perhaps upper 90s is likely where we will peak out Thursday. By the way, the record high for Thursday is 97 set back in 1994 in Rochester. It's going to be close.

A weak cold front will try to push through Friday morning with a storm or two posssible with somewhat more tolerable air building in for Friday afternoon & especially Saturday.

  1. It was barely enough to settle the dust. it will not help the lawns any. The airport only rerceived .13. It looked so much more impressive than it was.

  2. John,
The Euro keeps 20C at 850mb heat across our area right through Saturday evening, which, as you know, would keep us scorching hot right through the first half of the weekend. Meanwhile the GFS pushes that front you mentioned across our region Friday and has the Fri - Sat timeframe much cooler compared to the Euro. Are you siding with the GFS at this point, then?

  3. Only .20 inches of rain at my house in Lyons this morning. Was hoping for a good 1/2 inch or more, but we'll take what we can get.

  4. I suspect we'll hover around 90 degrees on Friday as well. I think Saturday will be cooler until heat returns with 90 degree air again on Sunday.

In the much shorter term, look out for some strong late PM and evening storms!

  10. We missed out on all the rain yesterday here in Western Wayne County. .08 is all we could muster, not good. Some towns picked up on some brief downpours which helped. A half mile down the road from me pikced up on a 10 minute downpour. So close. I say we go for the 100 degree mark on Thursday. It has not happend in my lifetime. Would like to see it happen.
