Late October Feel Today
Written by John DiPasquale:
The coldest air mass since mid May is blowing in on an increasing north northwest wind, which will not only bring some lake clouds & a few scattered showers, but also keep temperatures from climbing any higher than the mid to upper 50s! A strong cold front moved through late last night/early this morning with some rain. The only nice thing about this afternoon will be that we should squeeze some breaks of sun out, but that's about it.
After some more lake clouds & a passing shower or two off the lake tonight, it will turn nicer looking on our Friday, as a strong Canadian high builds in from the west. Highs on Friday will still struggle to hit the upper 50s to around 60, with a bit of a brisk breeze out of the northwest, but it will definitely be better than our Thursday.
Friday night into Saturday, the area of high pressure will crest overhead setting us up for a cold start to the weekend. As a matter of fact, it should turn cold enough in outlying areas away from the lakes, especially in the sheltered valleys south of the thruway, that some frost could very well develop late Friday night & early Saturday. Lows will be in the mid 30s to around 40 for most, but mid 40s to near 50 close to the lakes. If you have tender plants & live in a normally colder spot of WNY, you will probably want to bring the vegetation in Friday evening.
After the cold start Saturday, the temperatures should moderate into the low & mid 60s with a good deal of sun, while 65 to 70 will likely do it for Sunday with nothing but sun! This is great news for all Bills fans heading to the game!
Early next week should start off nice with sun & temperatures warming into the low & mid 70s. There may be a shower/storm late in the day Monday, but most of the day looks nice. Next Tuesday & Wednesday as of now look pretty uneventful with a cloud sun blend & a passing shower or two possible. Highs should remain in the low to mid 70s.
Have a nice day WNY!
